Mother Lode is as one of the best spreading junipers for color below or in front of taller blue or green trees. It does bronze to some degree during winter. I had a mass planting in Dallas for 10 years that received direct sun all day long and it thrived year over year.

Once established, the new growth appears lighter blue for a nice contrast in groupings.

This spreading golden juniper is not unlike Mother Lode. It does have a more lemon yellow appearance and does well in direct sun during summer. The brown spots here are due to the early growth flushed out in March suffering frost bite due to a late winter freeze where temps dropped to 22 degrees. This juniper holds it color year round.

Gold Fever has not been readily available for several years. It is very similar to Gold Strike and Mother Lode. This mass planting receives morning sun eight to nine months out of the year. Large Loblollies just to the south create a canopy of shade during winter. In spite of the shade, Gold Fever holds more of its yellow color year round than would be expected. I will definitely add more if it becomes available in the future.

This harder to find variety was just planted but is showing signs of quick acclimation and adding new growth. The feathery sprays of upward turned branches will give the appearance of a miniature conifer forest in blue!

The Hollywood juniper is often seen in a wider open conical form. This specimen was severely attacked by deer during the winter of 2013 leaving little beyond the trunk of the tree.. Its recovery resulted in this stunning narrow tree in a shape rarely seen making it look more like a Trautman in form. In 2026 it is currently 10 feet tall and growing.

This Blue Arrow is one of three planted behind a Sea of Gold Spreader. It is adding new growth with the grayish-blue expected color. As a fast grower, it has added nearly a third of its current size in recent months. When small it is difficult to distinguish between Blue Arrow and Skyrocket.

The sculptural growth of this tree brings interest to the garden other junipers can't deliver. This one has been a fast grower having doubled in height since planting.. it's currently about 8' fall. It holds its dark green color year round and could be used as a foundational element, for screening or as I have it here as a focal point in a grouping.

The Skyrocket is very similar to Blue Arrow, particularly during the juvenile years. Once established, Skyrocket takes on more of a columnar habit while Blue Arrow is broader toward the base.

This Toleson's Weeping Blue juniper was hard to find for a few years. One west coast grower reported a crop failure about five years ago and experienced lengthy delays in getting fresh stock to the market. I was excited to find this one at a prominent Dallas garden center in a five gallon container between 5-6' tall. Since planting it has added an acceptable amount of growth requiring re-staking twice.
